ANTARKRANTI — Prison Reform & Inmate Rehabilitation

अंतरक्रांति Antarkranti translates to “The Inner Revolution”

Hate the crime, not the criminal.

Incarceration restrains the body; Brahm Gyan reforms the conscience. Antarkranti brings meditation and value education inside prison walls, so that a sentence served can become a life changed.

The philosophy, demystified

The mission Transforming prison inmates into peaceful, skilled and spiritually reformed citizens.

The program’s guiding line is simple: hate the crime, not the criminal. A harmful act deserves accountability; the person who did it still deserves the chance to become someone else.

Antarkranti means “the revolution within”. DJJS teaches that through Brahm Gyan (Direct Internal Awakening / Self-Realization) a person can perceive the Divine within themselves, and that this experience changes behaviour from the inside, where rules and punishments cannot reach. Punitive isolation restrains the body; awakening the divine witness within replaces guilt and vengeance with genuine remorse, inner peace and moral self-governance.

Daily meditation (Meditation) gives an inmate something prison rarely offers: quiet, self-respect and a steady practice to hold on to.

Curious about the root of it all? What is Brahm Gyan?

How it works

The three pillars of Antarkranti

  1. Aadhyatmik Parivartan

    Spiritual Reformation

Brahm Gyan initiation inside prison, and daily collective sadhna.

  2. Kaushal Vikas

    Vocational Training

Handloom weaving, pottery, herbal cosmetics and incense rolling: skills that lead to honest work.

  3. Samajik Punarvas

    Post-Release Reintegration

Transitional housing, placement with employers and family mediation after release.

Also part of the work

  • Value education Classes on ethics, self-discipline and responsibility, taught by volunteers.

A story of transformation

Ramesh, Tihar Jail

  1. Before

Serving a life sentence, Ramesh lived with severe anger and alienation.

  2. The turn

Through Antarkranti he learned meditation, and went on to master the classical flute and handloom weaving.

  3. After

Released for good behaviour, he now trains young people in ethical trades.

The story in three movements

The walls → The return

  1. 01 The walls

A sentence that ends, and a mind that may not

A prison can hold a person for years and still release them unchanged. The anger, regret and habits that led to the crime walk out of the gate with them.

  2. 02 The window

An inner door no wall can lock

Antarkranti volunteers bring satsang, meditation and value education into prisons. Inmates are met as human beings capable of change, not only as case numbers.

  3. 03 The return

    Reform as an inner change

DJJS reports reformed lives: people who have taken up meditation, service and learning inside, and who carry that discipline home after release.
